LEICESTER MERCURY 11/12/02 LEICESTER PHILHARMONIC CHOIR, CHRISTMAS MUSIC
DE MONTFORT
HALL, SAT 7 REVIEW by JOYCE PARKIN Setting the Scene Again the choir set the atmosphere for a Merry Christmas, accompanied by the award-winning Ransome Band, and Ivan Linford, assistant master of music at Leicester Cathedral, at the organ. The conductor was Richard Dacey. The concert had an exuberant opening with Alleluia, and they gave us the French carol, Noel Nouvelet and Rutter's Shepherd's Pipe Carol, displaying varied dynamics. There was the syncopated American song, I Wonder As I Wander, and the emotive Shepherd's Carol by Chilcott. The Ransome Band gave us three carols in the first half, and three medleys, including a stunning euphonium solo in Merry Christmas Darling. Children from the audience came to the stage after the interval to sing three carols beautifully. Carols for all included the old favourites, ending in O Come All Ye Faithful, with audience joined by choir, band and organ - a grand finale. |
