LEICESTER MERCURY 30/03/09
LEICESTER PHILHARMONIC CHOIR DE MONTFORT HALL, LEICESTER
SAT 21 Karl Jenkins - Stabat Mater Letter to Leicester Mercury from Steve Thompson STANDING OVATION: The Leicester Philharmonic Choir's concert was appreciated by the audience Review didn't do justice to a great performance I have just read a review by Malcolm Warner (Mercury, March 24), regarding the concert given by the Leicester Philharmonic Choir at De Montfort Hall on March 21. Quite simply, the whole evening was a great success. I have been approached by members of the audience since the performance, not relatives of mine or people connected to the choir, and they thought it was tremendous and very moving. Mr Warner failed to mention in his review that, at the end of the concert, well over half the audience gave us, and the wonderful orchestra, soloists and conductor Karl Jenkins, a standing ovation that went on for a number of minutes. For the benefit of readers who were not present on the night, the pieces were Finlandia, Shostakovich's Second Piano Concerto, superbly played by Chris Lee, and Stabat Mater, conducted by the composer Karl Jenkins. Come on, Mr Warner, if you can't find something better to say about such a great performance, then perhaps you are in the wrong job. S Thompson, Wigston. |
